Diet Tips for College Students

diet college Diet Tips for College StudentsWhen you are in college, it seems like your life is always on-the-go. You run from class to work to social activities. There is one thing to do after another. College is a very fun time in many people’s lives. But college can be a frustrating time to diet. You are faced with fattening foods and tempting treats at every turn. It also can be hard to find the time to exercise. Here are some success diet tips for every college student to keep in mind.

The most important thing to understand is that your current routine has been keeping you heavy. You need a different routine to help you become thin. So changes that you welcome into your life are going to help you come out of that chrysalis just like that beautiful butterfly. But every college student on a diet is going to need to make changes and there are times you’ll feel some “growing pains” as you do things that you just aren’t used to. Just keep in mind that every time you feel a growing pain – you are getting that much closer to successful weight loss and the body of your dreams.

Successful weight loss always includes an exercise routine. Always. So if you don’t have some form of exercise in your life, it is time to add something to your life today. Find a type of exercise that you like. Your college certainly has a fitness center with a pool or a running track — swimming, walking and jogging are all ideal forms of exercise. Any type of exercise that you do regularly is perfect. The most important thing is that you keep with it – and continue to exercise at least four times a week for half a hour a day for best results. Ideally you’ll exercise every day if your schedule permits.

Many people think of pizza, cheeseburgers and other fast food when they think of college students and food. But this is no longer the case. At most college cafeterias you can find healthy salads and other alternatives to enjoy. Visit the campus health center and talk to a doctor and get an idea of what type of diet you should be following. They should have information about calorie counts and give you an ideal weight you should reach. The most important thing to reach your ideal weight is to remove most of the “junk foods” from your diet. These foods simply don’t have nutrients that will help keep you healthy – even though they taste yummy. You can socialize with friends even if you don’t have that slice of greasy pizza!

Lots of college students drink and some even overindulge. This is one of the ways many take in many too many calories. To be successful at your diet and for general overall wellbeing, curb your drinking. Cut down to having one or even just two glasses of lite beer or wine when you go out with friends. This will be better for your health and your waistline. Alcohol is filled with empty calories and often causes a “belly bloat” affect that gives you a large stomach.

Sometimes when you make a change in your life – your friends are thrilled for you and are happy to see you change. But if your friends are overweight and don’t want to be reminded they are making unhealthy choices – they will be rather uncomfortable with your changes. Be strong and focused in who you are and don’t spend too much time with people who criticize you for sticking to your weight loss plan. You can be a good role model to them and perhaps in time they too will lose weight.
