Diet at Work

When most of us are under stress, we want to run for our favorite comfort food. But you can learn to stick to your diet successfully while you are at work. Try these success tips to stick to your diet while at work.

Everyone’s schedule is different. Learn your weakest points when you are tempted to snack or eat. Some people push themselves through, even forgetting to eat actual meals. You are not doing yourself, your employer or even your diet a big favor by doing this. It is one thing to do it occasionally during “crunch time” to get a big project done by deadline — but another thing entirely to do it all the time. Listening to your hunger is important for your health and success. Eating a piece of fruit or cup of yogurt for a snack so you don’t get too hungry can help to keep you in control all day. Even a quick can of V8 juice will often keep you from getting too hungry later on.

Try to spend part of your lunch hour exercising. Many successful dieters spend part of their lunch hour simply taking a walk. You can walk around the office parking lot, around the facility or even in the actual office. You may be surprised by just how many people want to join you on this walk – it is a great way to network and make friends at work! You can talk and relax and get a little exercise. This workout is only 20 minutes or so long but is a great way to get a quick workout in during your day. It will help keep your metabolism burning fat and moving fast for your health.

Business travel can be frustrating when it comes to dieting. Many business travelers are faced with restaurant meals that are fattening and fast food grabbed quickly as they rush to meetings. Try to plan ahead by researching where you will eat on the Internet so you can plan some of your meals ahead of time. Pack healthy snacks like energy bars or granola bars to stave off hunger. Even some fresh fruit will easily “keep” in your hotel room for several days without spoiling. This is a great snack that can keep you from eating too much at those large restaurant meals.

Many business social events center around food. The holiday party or summer picnic are all about sharing a good meal together. But keep in mind that you are truly there to socialize. No one is going to examine too closely what you put on your plate. Add a small serving to your plate and keep focused on socializing with people at work. Before you know it, you’ll be having a great time and won’t even have time to eat! That’s the best way to get through an office party without being tempted.

Most of us have a lunch or other type of meal break at work. One of the best ways you can control the calorie and fat count of this meal is to prepare your meal at home and bring it to work with you. It can be easy to prepare your meals during the weekend and have them ready to bring in during the week. If you take a few hours over the weekend to prepare all of your meals, they’ll all be ready to go for you for the work week.
